Why do we petition Bridgewater State Hospital be transferred to the mental health experts, the Department of Mental Health?
Imagine having a serious mental illness (SMI) and housed at Bridgewater State Hospital. A place known to abuse patients living in unsanitary conditions, no air conditioning, insect infestation, extremely poor leadership, poor medical and dental care, toxic mold, asbestos, illegal activities, retaliation and overseen by the Massachusetts Department of Corrections.
This is an organization known to abuse patients who struggle with serious mental illness. There is no one in the Massachusetts Department of Corrections capable of caring for patients suffering from serious mental illness.
This population is known as the
"Forgotten Soles".

These symptoms can include a lack of motivation, difficulty feeling pleasure, and social withdrawal.
Impact on Daily Life: Schizophrenia can make it challenging to work, attend school, maintain relationships, and take care of oneself.

People with schizophrenia may face stigma and social isolation due to the unusual nature of their symptoms and behaviors.
Individual Differences:It's important to remember that schizophrenia affects everyone differently. Symptoms and their severity can vary widely from person to person.
Importance of Treatment:
With consistent treatment, which may include medication, therapy, and social support, people with schizophrenia can manage their symptoms and lead fulfilling lives. In essence, living with schizophrenia can be a challenging experience, marked by both the frightening and confusing aspects of psychotic symptoms and the difficulties in maintaining a normal life. However, with the right support and treatment, many individuals with schizophrenia can achieve recovery and live meaningful lives.
