Traffic Study - North Gower
The Issue
Living in the village of North Gower, I've experienced firsthand the dangers posed by the high-speed traffic entering our community. It's a concern as we navigate daily life along Fourth Line Road with the addition of a new paved road. But we're not alone in this concern—it affects neighbors, friends, and every resident who calls North Gower home.
Every day, I walk my children to the school bus stop, my dog to the community center or simply use the side walk to walk into the village, I have come to notice vehicles speed by without regard for the safety of pedestrians or the community. It's not just a matter of inconvenience; it's a matter of life and death. We cannot ignore the urgent need for traffic calming measures to protect the well-being of our community.
Therefore, I'm calling on the City of Ottawa & City Council to promptly conduct a comprehensive broad traffic study for North Gower. Such a study will provide insightful data, enabling the city to implement necessary safety measures, such as a Community Safety Zone and strategic adjustments to vehicle flow.
For example a Community Safety Zone would highlight to drivers that they're entering a residential area where children play and families live. Additionally, by adding a crosswalk to connect Community Way safely to both sidewalks on Fourth Line Road, we can ensure everyone can cross the street without fear. Appropriate road signage and adjustments, such as speed bumps, audible pavement markings, flashing lights or reduced speed limits, will further encourage drivers to slow down and respect our village's safety.
We owe it not only to ourselves but to future generations to ensure North Gower remains a safe place to live, work, and enjoy. We envision a vibrant community where children can walk to school safely, where pedestrians, joggers and cyclists, dog walkers can enjoy the serene atmosphere without apprehension.
Join me in urging the City of Ottawa & City Council to prioritize a broad traffic study for North Gower. Sign the petition today to create a safer environment for all of us.
