Traffic Safety Improvements Along Fairfax Avenue

The Issue

We the undersigned members the community surrounding Little Ethiopia, including residents, customers, shoppers, passers-b, staff and business owners respectfully request LADOT  study solutions to address   the difficulties  we face trying to cross Fairfax between Olympic and Pico.
Specifically  there are three areas we would like to be addressed:

  1. Mid-block  between Olympic and Whitworth.   What we have:  Little Ethiopia is a cluster of ethiopian shops and restaurants and  antique shops. The 'beg-button"  requesting  a walk signal takes a very long time to change. We wait  for minutes at a time while cars either speed  past, or idle in congestion,  and we find we are breathing fumes while we wait.    What we would like: Shoppers and workers need to be able to cross Fairfax easily in order to conduct  business.
  2. Fairfax and whitworth What we have: Whitworth is a relatively calm thoroughfare for bicyclists, and  people on scooters. The  traffic signal   on Whitworth across Fairfax also takes an uncomfortable amount of time to change. What we would like:  any improvements that facilitate crossing Fairfax and continuing along Whitworth safely and  comfortably.
  3.  Fairfax and Packard What we have:  a residential community divided by Fairfax with no comfortable way to cross  the street, especially at night What we would like: any improvements that prioritize pedestrian access to both sides of Fairfax.
