TRAFFIC SAFETY ENFORCEMENT ON EVERGREEN PARKWAYPETITION
The Issue
PETITION FOR IMMEDIATE TRAFFIC SAFETY ENFORCEMENT ON EVERGREEN PARKWAY
To the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County Commissioners, and CDOT:
We, the undersigned residents, business owners, and concerned community members of Evergreen, Colorado, are demanding immediate action regarding the increasingly dangerous driving conditions on Evergreen Parkway and surrounding roads.
Every single day, drivers speed excessively, drive distracted, run stop signs and red lights, cross double yellow lines, tailgate, and drive recklessly through our mountain community with little visible enforcement or consequence.
This behavior has created a serious and ongoing threat to residents, visitors, pedestrians, cyclists, schoolchildren, and wildlife.
Recent tragedies have made the danger impossible to ignore: • A pedestrian was recently killed on Evergreen Parkway. • A pregnant elk was struck with such force that the fetus was ejected onto the roadway, leaving a horrifying scene witnessed by many residents and families.
These are not isolated incidents. Reckless driving has become routine throughout Evergreen.
Residents have repeatedly raised concerns and requested stronger enforcement and safer traffic conditions, yet meaningful change has not occurred. The recently installed warning signs have done little to slow dangerous drivers or reduce reckless behavior.
Evergreen Parkway is not a freeway. It is the heart of a mountain community where people live, work, walk, bike, shop, recreate, and coexist with abundant wildlife.
We are calling on Jefferson County and CDOT to take immediate action by:
• Increasing visible traffic enforcement on Evergreen Parkway • Conducting regular speeding and distracted-driving enforcement operations • Increasing patrol presence during peak commuting hours • Strictly enforcing red-light, stop-sign, and passing violations • Reevaluating current speed limits and traffic-calming measures • Installing safer pedestrian crossings where needed • Working with the Evergreen community to improve roadway safety before additional lives are lost
We should not have to wait for another human fatality or horrific wildlife collision before meaningful action is taken.
The safety of our community must become a priority.
