Traffic Light for Kaloko Dr and Hawaii Belt Rd

Traffic Light for Kaloko Dr and Hawaii Belt Rd
Why this petition matters

The Kaloko community is in desperate need of a traffic light at the intersection of Kaloko Drive and Hawaii Belt Road. This area is highly dangerous to those making left turns from the Hwy onto Kaloko and from Kaloko onto the Hwy. There are frequent backups during heavy traffic periods and there are keiki that wait for the school bus every morning.
In addition to the traffic concerns, each homeowner was assessed several thousand dollars at the time of their lot development. At this time, there is over 1 million dollars in the county funding for improvements at this particular intersection. There is absolutely no reason why we should not have a traffic light installed at this location. Something needs to be done before there is a fatality.
You may also call Wendy at Councilman Holeka Inaba’s office to voice your concern. Her number is 808-323-4280.
As if we didn't have enough traffic woes already, there is also a new proposed subdivision off 1st Hao Street. There are a proposed 7 lots with an approximate count of 10-15 cars added. This development will most likely be approved as the planning consultant is the retired head PC (Sidney Fuke) in Hilo. The planning commission live stream meeting is 9:30 am, April 21, 2022, in which this proposal will be reviewed.
Please share with all stakeholders! It is important we receive as many signatures as possible because this intersection affects all that traverse Hawaii Belt Road.
