Many people have started using "fancy number plates" and think of it as a "status symbol" more commonly seen among the "VIP number" users, e.g. a vehicle with number "0007" is written as "007", the number assigned to James Bond or a vehicle with number "8055" is written as "BOSS". 

This is apart from the people who use different font sizes - smaller initially and larger fonts for the last 4 digits. Some even use Devnagari or local languages for their number plates, especially those attached to Political parties. Even car sellers are violating this rule by fixing up their showroom name on the number plate all in gross violation of the Motor Vehicles Act. 

These number plate holders can easily escape as it will be difficult to identify the words or numbers correctly which are difficult to read from a distance or because they are in language/s other than English. 

If the Traffic Department starts taking strict action against these MVA violators, many people will start using standard fonts in English language as laid down in the traffic rules.
