Stop the Unsafe Reopening of TUSD Schools!
The Issue
The school board of the Tracy Unified School District has decided to forego the process of voting on reopening the school. Taking the power of a voice and the ability to choose away from its community, it’s parents, and it’s students.
There is a board meeting schedule for 7 pm tonight (June 23, 2020) and according to the Secretary to the Superintendent, the board will not even be voting on the reopening plan. It will be presented verbally by the head of the district task force Julianna Stocking. What does this mean? It means that the district will state what the plan is and move forward with it. The timing of this presentation is "brilliant" because there is not another board meeting scheduled until after school has started. Oh, and according to the Secretary to the Superintendent the board is not meeting in person because of COVID-19. Let this sink in. It is too risky for seven board members to meet, but it is perfectly acceptable for the district to have students and staff return to the classroom without any social distancing. Makes perfect sense, doesn't it? So here is what you can do. Below I have provided a link to the TUSD board where you can post comments directly to the board members. Comments need to be submitted between 5-6pm tonight. Also I have attached board member emails. Request in both the comments and your emails that the board refuses to accept the plan of the TUSD task force if it does not meet or exceed the recommendations of the California Department of Education for a safe reopening.
When addressing the board, please refer to agenda item 10.2.1
