Ban UK Greyhound Racing

The Issue

The world of Greyhound racing is cruel, barbaric and deadly. Annually thousands of dogs are abused, mistreated, illegally euthanized, transported to China for the meat trade or to supply the obscene 'Meat Festival' where dogs are killed and eaten in the street. Others are sold as nothing more than commodities and sent to their certain death in the Canidrome of Macau where they are raced to death.

In the UK many dogs are not registered and of those who are some 10,000 go missing from official data sources annually suggesting that they have been killed or sold privately or dumped. With news of mass graves being found beside some of the racing tracks and horrific reports of inhumane living conditions where dogs are kept in filthy, tiny cages and are denied the basic animal rights of access to fresh water and food, the right to exhibit and enjoy animal behaviour, the right to reasonable shelter and attention, it is time to say that the 2010 regulations have failed to ensure and enforce high standards in greyhound welfare and BAN the whole industry altogether, this is the only way to end the cruelty and suffering and brutal killing endemic within it.
