Japan has resumed commercial whaling.  Going against international opinion and with little popularity at home, Japan is subsidizing commercial whale hunting.

Whale meat has always been of very little importance to the Japanese economy and diet.  Those saying it is a "tradition" are exaggerating.  And many traditions are better left to history.
