Dad Does
Feb 24, 2016
Hi All, Steve Pasierb, the CEO of the TIA is starting to say all the right things. On 2/17 he gave an interview to Toy News titled "TIA open to dropping gender-based Toy of the Year Awards categories." Mr Pasierb is talking about wanting to avoid "false dichotomies" with gender based awards. Why We Can't Declare Victory Yet For 6 weeks we contacted the TIA about the issue of gender based toy awards. The only response we ever got was Ken Seiter, VP of Marketing Communications accidentally hitting Reply to All and saying - "Needless to say we don't touch this. Obviously this guy needs a job" What did we say in our emails to provoke such a response from Mr. Seiter? All of our correspondents with the TIA and their lack of response can now be seen at the link in this update. You will see the exact emails, word for word. Literally, within hours of the Washington Post article coming out you have the CEO saying gender based toy awards need to be reevaluated. Then four days later, the CEO gives a full interview to Toy News about the need to do away with gender specific toy awards. Why for 6 weeks did the TIA have absolutely no comment on this petition and then within hours of the Washington Post article start talking about doing away with gender based toy awards? Is the TIA serious about removing the Boy and Girl TOTY Awards or is this just lip service? We have Mr. Seiter saying "we don't touch this" and now Mr. Pasierb saying "We want to make sure we don’t end up with those false dichotomies" As you can see, talk can be confusing, but actions speak loud and clear. For this reason, we have removed Ken Seiter's name from this petition and will now speak directly to Steve Pasierb. Mr. Pasierb, we applaud your willingness to change the TOTY Awards and the time for change is now. We ask that you formally announce that the Boy and Girl TOTY Awards will be retired in 2016. To all our supporters - thanks so much for all your help, we are clearly making a difference. Let's keep the pressure up, get some more signature and make sure we just witnessed the last Boy and Girl TOTY Awards ever!
