Over the past four semesters Towson University students have had to navigate the rapid changes of being in college during a pandemic. This semester we have returned to campus fully for the first time since March 2020. In an announcement this past Friday (9/17/2021) Towson University stated that they will not be holding a graduation ceremony for those of us graduating in December 2021. The reason for canceling the graduation was cited as "ongoing health and safety concerns with COVID-19." Despite these concerns, Towson University is still selling tickets for indoor basketball games at the same arena where it is too dangerous to hold graduation. It is clear that canceling graduation is not being driven by health concerns but rather by greed. Those of us graduating this semester have worked hard and deserve a graduation. Covid rates have continued to decline in the state of Maryland and simple mask and vaccine requirement would be adequate to protect all of those attending graduation ceremonies. Those who feel uncomfortable attending an indoor ceremony should be give the opportunity to defer to spring 2022. Please join us in the fight to get our graduation back!
