With so many unwanted, neglected and dumped cats, kittens, dogs and puppies turning up at the doors of Townsville’s rescue organisations and the local pound, it’s time council enforce desexing as a standard practice for any dog or cat owner, before their pet has the chance to breed. 

Backyard breeders accidentally breeding animals, or breeding pets for money leads to countless animals being euthanised and abandoned every day, and rescue organisations overflowing with unwanted dogs and cats. Not to mention the health and temperament problems which often comes from breeding poor genetics. 

Council can also introduce permits for those people wanting to keep entire animals for the purposes of breeding, with each littler being registered under the permit attached to each breeding animal and this permit linked through to the animal’s microchip.

We have the ability to positively affect the quality of life of so many animals by making this one simple change to pet ownership.
