YMCA INEA started this petition to Town of Walkerville (Ms Kiki Magro CEO) and

The Walkerville YMCA located in inner north east Adelaide, South Australia is a much used and loved local community facility providing a range of recreation services and we want to ensure that the community services continue from this location in the future. The Walkerville YMCA is managed by YMCA INEA an ACNC registered charity that is driven by a passion for local community and providing a space where people feel they belong.

We have over 60,000 participations each year across a diverse range of activities including gymnastics, health & wellness, group fitness, strength for life, futsal, badminton, basketball, dodgeball, stunt programs, martial arts, dance fitness, squash, birthday celebrations and vacation care. Our participants come from all walks of life and include children with special needs, autism participants and we employ staff with special needs to give them vital employment opportunities.  We provide programs to public, private and special schools and regularly have work experience placement students as part of their certificate III in Fitness.

The Town of Walkerville is proposing to remove the community land status of the YMCA Walkerville site which currently permits only community, educational and recreational facilities. What is the council planning? Where will all these people go if the council closes the community facility? Why the secrecy?

By signing this online petition, you are adding your voice to let the Town of Walkerville know that you do not support their proposal to remove the Community Land status from the current site and want vital community recreational programs to continue at the Walkerville YMCA.

Their proposal was hidden in 400 pages of council documents, without adequately naming the site and their advertisement in the Adelaide Advertiser on the 26th September for consultation on the community land management review omits to mention the exclusion of this important site and does not appear to meet the required notice period of 21 days consultation under the relevant policy covered by the Local Government Act.

Let the Town of Walkerville know this is not acceptable and that you demand that the land be retained for community, education and recreation purposes. Please sign this online petition and you can also provide a submission in writing by 5pm Monday 14 October 2019. Email your submission to walkerville@walkerville.sa.gov.au and drop in at the community information session from 11am - 1pm Saturday 12th October 2019, Walkerville Town Hall, 66 Walkerville Terrace, Gilberton and tell the council in person why the loss of community land, recreation and education facilities affects you.
