Make the Richmond Green turf soccer fields public without need of a permit
The Issue
Soccer is a sport loved by millions of people, however the Town of Richmond Hill does not allow children to use the fields at Richmond Green for recreational use without a permit, taking away the opportunity to play on two of the nicest fields the GTA has ever had available.
Despite being listed as a public on their website, (see: https://www.richmondhill.ca/documents/grant_project_artificial_turf.pdf), those who use the field without a "permit" are kicked off regardless of if the field is being used for organized play or not.
An excerpt from Richmond Hill's website about the use of the turf fields:
"Greater Public Use
Upgrading these facilities to artificial turf
effectively doubles the amount of time the
facility may be used by the public by extending
the playing season from 21 to 38 weeks, and
eliminating rest time and down time for
maintenance. By extending available program
time, the project has also had a positive impact
on public participation in physical activities."
With Richmond Hill themselves only contributing $1,284,000 towards the total $3,652,000 cost of the project, there should be no reason these fields are not open to the public as the town themselves are the ones to tell users to leave.
