The Town of Port McNeill has made the decision to go ahead with their Canada Day event. In light of all of the racial injustice against Indigenous People all over Canada, and all of the unmarked graves being recovered; I propose that we replace the event on July 1st with a day to stand with Indigenous People while they honour the thousands of murdered children, and pay respects to the grieving families. It is extremely saddening and insensitive that the town would go ahead with this “celebration” and we need to put a stop to the normalization of racism and the silencing of the Indigenous People’s voices on who’s land we live on.
