OC Young Adult Curfew Act - 11pm- 18 year old and under / 12am - 19 & 20yo Sec. 18-3 mod.
The Issue
Begin strict enforcement of an OC Young Adult Curfew Act, which needs to be added to Sec. 18-3. - General curfew in the Municodes of OCMD ordinances. IT is now an emergency, timing and adjustment need to be done for the safety and welfare of all due to an uptick in violence and destruction activity throughout the town.
Sec. 18-3. - General curfew.
After the proclamation of civil emergency, the Mayor or his successors in order of authority may order a general curfew applicable to such geographical areas of Ocean City or to Ocean City as a whole as he deems advisable, and applicable during such hours of the day or night as he deems necessary in the interest of the public safety and welfare. (Code 1972, § 40-3)
"With the recent violence and destruction in Ocean City MD around the town, it is time that the town residents and business owners that pay taxes to take action NOW by DEMANDING A CURFEW. The revision that is needed is updating Sec 18.3 ordinance mandates that those 18 and under abide by the OC Young Adult Curfew Act which should call for a curfew between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m., and those 19 and 20 are to abide by the curfew 12 a.m. and 6 a.m. Or, just make it 20 and under curfew. One is needed after the mayhem in June and what we witnessed again this year with the H20 group. This would eliminate the abuse that the OCPD has to take with the mentality of this age group! Anyone who appears to be 20 or younger and is out without a parent is subject to be stopped during the mandated curfew hours, police said. This will provide some safety to the youth in town and keep them out of harm's way.
Those found in violation can be issued a summons, as can their parent or guardian. Penalties could include fines up to $1,000 and community service. The first fine would be a $50 fine for the infringement and each additional one could go up by $150., this would start to impact their lives, as they do the hard earning people that work and live in this area.
There is already a curfew in Ocean City Maryland has this already in place and it is not being followed, it is time to mandate a curfew and follow this one that is already listed in the town ordinances - "Ocean City strongly enforces its ordinance that no disruptive noises be made between 12 midnight and 7 a.m. in such a manner as to be heard at a distance of 50 feet from the building or structure which it is located." This would be an added section to 18.3
(In law, a young adult/minor is a person under a certain age, usually the age of majority, which legally demarcates childhood from adulthood. For example, the drinking age in the United States is usually 21, and younger people are sometimes called minors in the context of alcohol law, even if they are at least 20.)
The only exceptions are for emergencies or coming home from work.
"We want to eliminate potential victims that are hanging out on the boardwalk and throughout the town with no purpose. Many of our violent crimes take place between the hours of 10 p.m. and 12 a.m.
