The Issue

According to the Zillow ad, “131 acres on Libertyville Rd., one mile west of the Village of New Paltz. 2500 foot frontage on Libertyville Road. Beautiful wooded parcel - oak, pine, maple, etc. Known as The Big Woods, one of the last large parcels near the village. Limited access due to partial wetland. Currently a farm road access.” Is being sold for $1.3 million and likely to developers for who knows what. More McMansions? A resort?

We, residents of New Paltz, NY, ask that the town spend its Real Estate Transfer Tax revenue (https://www.townofnewpaltz.org/community-preservation-fund-advisory-board/pages/real-estate-transfer-tax)to purchase this property and to conserve it as is for its intrinsic value, its environmental importance—including habitat for endangered species, and to sustain the natural scenic beauty of this area. New Paltz has already become overly crowded and each new housing development is one more stop towards climate disaster and expanding NYC ever further north until no wilderness remains. Please. Save this land for all of us!!!
