Unfortunately Byron Lake water has become a rusty orange color and has a metal-like smell.  All the leaves and just about anything that comes out of it is stained that color.  Turtle shells have been found stained as well as dead on the side of the lake.  It used to used be blooming with life, such as lily pads and swarmed with tadpoles and frogs.  The fountain used to work and kids used to bring their fishing poles and nets to catch fish and tadpoles all day long.  The water is now polluted and something needs to be done.  This can happen if the problem is addressed sooner rather than later.  It can be a concern if this water has been leaking into the drinking water as well as into the bay.  Testing the water to make sure it does not pose a threat to human and animal health can be one of the next steps.  Organizing a community clean up for the lake is something that can be beneficial and bring the town together.  Let's help bring this park back to its original beautiful self.  A place where the kids want to play outside all day with their families and friends.
