Gina Federico has sadly lost her position as Co-Volunteer Coordinator at Camp ANCHOR, a yeah round camp for people with special needs in Lido Beach, NY. This news is devastating and simply does not make sense. To remove a dedicated professional educator, with decades of experience, who has given so much to our kids and the volunteers who support them, is both unconscionable and unfair. The patience, compassion, and empathy that is essential to working with our kids, is fostered by the talents of individuals like Gina. Gina, a dedicated special education teacher, has worked at CAMP ANCHOR for 41 years. The past 15 of which she served as co coordinator of the volunteers, those teenagers who devote their time to supplement the camp staff.

Recently, Gina followed protocol for merging two retirement systems which first required her to resign her position at ANCHOR with the expectation of then being rehired but was NEVER told there is a TOH (Town of Hempstead) hiring freeze! So, the routine and everyday past practice of merging retirement systems has now resulted in :

1. loss of her job (WHICH SHE FOUGHT TO GET BACK)

2. Being told they already hired someone to replace her co- volunteer position which she has held for the past 15 years!

3. As a result, was placed at an alternate TOH park!

Please sign this petition to let Town of Hempstead officials know to reinstate Gina in her role at Camp ANCHOR and that this cannot be tolerated and cannot happen to such a wonderful, dedicated, driven and natural leader who truly works for ALL STAFF, STUDENTS, CAMPERS.
