The Issue
The Deerfield Town Planning Board is planning to review the application for a Special Use Permit to erect a 14,000-panel solar array facility in North Gage. The proposed project would be built on roughly half of 83 acres of what is currently open farmland adjacent to the northbound lane of Route 8 on Schermerhorn Hill near the North Gage Road intersection. The planning board approved this Special Use Permit once before during full Covid lockdown proceedings but has since rescinded that approval after a lawsuit was filed against the approval proceedings by some concerned local residents. We are trying to ensure that as many people as possible are aware of the proposed solar farm as well as some questions pertaining to the impacts of this development project.
The Clearpath Energy LLC (the solar company) is using the threat of a lawsuit to push the board into accepting the special use permit. Clearpath assumed without even reading our Master Plan that this would be allowed and they are using their lawyers to pressure the Planning Board into passing this. The Deerfield area is unique and our Master Plan (the law for Deerfields development) dictates that this is not allowed but Clearpath Energy LLC does not care.

Community members of the greater Deerfield area demand the planning board DENY a special use permit for the proposed 5-Megawatt, 83-acre site commercial solar energy facility located at 7439 St. Rt. 8 (North Gage) in Deerfield.
This permit must be denied due to MAJOR inconsistencies with the Deerfield comprehensive Master Plan, zoning requirements, and conflict with special use permit requirements pertaining to community character, views, environmental impacts, aesthetics, noise, glare, drainage, property values, and similar impacts. Current Deerfield laws must be followed without exception and this energy facility must be PROHIBITED.
