The small, historic town of Berryville, Virginia has maintained it's small town feel and local business integrity since the humble beginnings of town, when George Washington surveyed the land in 1750. The Town of Berryville, and everyone in it, have supported local businesses and sustainable farming techniques ever since I can remember, and we should not change that. The Town of Berryville is about to let a McDonald's fast food restaurant build in front of the Shop 'n Save grocery store on Route 340. While this is a convenient meal option, and a good source of tax revenue for the town, this is not a good establishment. Fast food is terrible for our health. Feeding ourselves and our children with fast food is linked to rapid weight gain, an increased risk of type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular health problems. Not to mention the high levels of sodium, fat, sugar, and preservatives. We should be looking out for our future generations, making sure they understand the value of proper nutrition, and we should not invite a large corporation to build in our historic, beautiful town. Today, it's McDonalds, tomorrow, Walmart. Help us stop the building of the Berryville VA McDonald's Restaurant before it begins by signing and sharing our petition.
