Hello friends family and supporters,  it’s been quite a while and I just wanted to give you guys an update on the current situation with the town and changing the code. A few weeks ago we received a correspondence from our Joseph Guarino, CFM our Principal Environmental Analyst from the Town of Babylon Department of Environmental Control. The correspondence was based off of a study conducted in September 2020 which concluded that the rat / mice infestation of the island was directly associated with chicken keeping. For this reason a proposal has been bought forth which would essentially make it nearly impossible for most of our town to keep backyard chickens.
As most of us residents know this problem with rodents has been an on going issue since the fall  of the real estate market back in 2008 when residents were forced out of their homes due to high mortgages these homes eventually became zombie homes. Fast forward 10+ years later the economy is in a better standing and a lot of these homes are being purchased by contractors and construction is on the rise.
Mix the ground breaking construction with the number of residents fleeing the city, add covid plus restaurant closings strip malls and fast food restaurants to that mix we are bound deal with negative effects. Our job now is to prove these obvious contributors and educate our counsel on the benefits of backyard chicken keeping. We do have a Town meeting scheduled for tomorrow at 3:30 which I will be addressing our board with my findings in regards to the map that has been proposed.

For those of you in the town willing to discuss this issue you can contact me directly at:

Below you will find an article published by ABC news regarding the rodent infestation in our neighboring towns as you will see not one mention of chickens being the problem.
