We must as a society protect those animals that cannot protect themselves. Animals who come into our homes provide companionship, loyalty and unconditional love.  We cannot allow this cruelty to continue without penalty.  Crimes against animals should be addressed as any other violent crime.

Michale J Tortorici beat his eight year old German Shepherd repeatedly before shooting it with a shotgun in the abdomen and leaving it to suffer and die on the basement floor.  All this was done in the presence of a twelve year old child.
