An interview with Town Mayor Jeff Irvine was posted to the Alleghany Journal page on Facebook and shared to the Save The Stone House at Mountain View Cemetery page.  This is the link for your viewing pleasure:

Although it may seem like a time to rejoice in view of what Jeff Irvine said on the journal's video, I would not begin the celebration quite yet.  Too many half truths, lies and reversals have been told by people on the town side of this issue.  I'm not rejoicing until the council has voted to restore the Stone House and the restoration has significantly begun.  Actions speak louder than their words.

Additionally, the structural engineer who inspected the building stated that the building was structurally sound except for the rafters holding up the roof and the beams and flooring for the second floor.  They recommended the building be reinforced for seismic activity, however, since the building has stood, there have been more than 570 "shakes" (as the geological society calls them) since the building has been constructed.  I will post the data and the structural report at a later update.

The town council needs to bring the restoration project before the council and VOTE to restore it. The April meeting is on the 12th.  That would be a perfect time to place the matter on the agenda so it's on official record.

And for the record, the money collected from the sale of the books and donations will be given to the town AFTER the renovations have been voted for and approved by town council and the work has begun. Plus, the town needs to sign an agreement that those funds will only be used for the Stone House and not diverted to any other project.

And one last matter...the committee's sole purpose was to determine if the building should be restored.  The committee voted unanimously that it should be. That vote was presented to town council on March 8th.  The committee was not dissolved because of a rogue committee member, although they would like for you to believe that, it was dissolved because it's job was done.

Thank you for your support in getting this matter brought to the forefront and for signing the petition.  Please continue to share the petition so we can have more signatures indicating support for the restoration.   Here's a link to the petition  https://www.change.org/SavetheStoneHouse
