On March 8, 2022, the Restore The Stone House Committee gave their unanimous recommendation to the Town Council to restore the building at no cost to the town. That was a condition of the vast majority of those who signed the petition or voiced their opinions on Facebook.
The Committee also gave the following use recommendations:
1. Initially installing a map and directory of graves in the three cemeteries within walking distance of the Stone House; Mountain View, Red Hill and Crown Hill. This map and directory will remain in the building no matter the other uses. There will also be a history of the building for those who visit to read.
2. Restore it as a chapel as it was originally built and dedicated.
3. Turn it into a columbarium for cremains.
4. Restore it as a combination chapel and columbarium.
By signing the petition, you have shown your desire to restore the building, NOW we need your HELP and PLEDGE of how much you are willing to donate towards the restoration. We don’t need your money now. The Town Council wants to know how many persons are willing to take the next step to support the restoration financially. $5 or $500, any amount will help and be greatly appreciated.
The restoration will take place in stages. The first stage is to “stop the bleeding” or, in other words, make the building weather tight while we work towards developing a plan of restoration. Town employees have already removed the vines covering one side of the building. As you can see from the photos, it already looks 100% better. The removal also revealed two half moon windows at the top of the building along with another window on that side.
One of the council members, who is a licensed contractor, has volunteered to contribute his employees labor and materials to install a new roof as well as gutters. This is HUGE! Thank you Councilman Wolfe!

We are also working on making the project a non-profit which may make your contributions tax deductible.
The Town Council plans to vote if the restoration should be accepted as a project for the town on April 12, 2022. We will need your PLEDGE by that date so that we can total them and present a figure to the Council before the vote. So why not do it right now while you are thinking about it?
