Vote NO, and Stop the sale of the Recreation Center at 30 Federal Street
The Issue
We the citizens of Brunswick are asking the Town Council NOT to approve the sale of the Rec Center located at 30 Federal St. at their meeting on Monday, May 20th, 2013. The language of the agenda item states:
“The Town Council will consider adopting “A Resolution Authorizing the Town Manager to Sign a Purchase and Sale Agreement for Property at 30 Federal Street,” The resolution stipulates that the sales price is to be no less than $200,000”
This building’s current appraised value is $465,000. We believe the town council cannot permit the underpriced sale of taxpayer owned property. Sale of any municipal property must involve input from all stakeholders in a procedure based on best practices. The public must be fully informed with a cost benefit analysis including, but not limited to a full, transparent accounting of the deal, budgets for the ongoing costs and the "fit out", and the time table for having the new facilities ready to go for full occupancy and use.
