Spreading the word

We now have nearly five hundred supporters! Thank you all for your signatures and wonderful comments. This is a marvellous start to our campaign although there's still a long way to go and a local leaflet and poster campaign will begin next week. But our main approach is through the petition website, so please - spread the word! Tell your friends and family, neighbours and colleagues - anyone who shares your belief that the East End needs this unique and plucky survivor. The proposed development by Resolution Property, claims to be a "proud revitalisation of Wickham’s, an iconic building in E1, the heart of the East End." It's not all bad, and you can see the details here: http://deptw.co.uk/ But the current scheme, "offering 'affordable loft style spaces with generous media specifications" will involve the demolition and removal of the Spiegelhalter facade and its replacement with a modern glass atrium. (Let's not quibble over "affordable".) We oppose any development that fails to include a restored facade intact, and that's why we are petitioning Tower Hamlets Council to impose 'local listing' on 81 Mile End Road. Spread the word - save Spiegelhalter's! David
