Our campaign features in the current issue of Private Eye (No. 1383), in the excellent Nooks and Corners column by 'Piloti' (page 15), who concludes: "A restored Spiegelhalter's could represent true democracy and be a symbol of resistance to the arrogant and out-of-control commercial forces that are smashing up the East End and elsewhere." Absolutely! Spiegelhalter's will be a rallying point for individuals and organisations opposed to overblown and inappropriate development in the area and beyond. And not just in London. Do take a look at the campaign page and read the many marvellous comments posted by supporters, including the poet Michael Rosen (who offers both personal and public reasons to back this petition). We now have more than two hundred signatures - and it's only Day 3. A poster and flier campaign is planned for the Mile End Road area next week, alerting households and businesses to the petition and we expect this will generate grass roots support.
