Save CHRISP ST MARKET and DEFER the Regeneration Plans.

MARKET TRADERS want REASSURANCES in WRITING, following a number of serious CONCERNS that have come to light recently.

We DEMAND the immediate REMOVAL of AMM Ltd as advisors and agents of Poplar HARCA and Telford Homes in relation to the Chrisp St Regeneration Plans. They have FAILED to serve us correctly and due to the inappropriate conduct of Debbie Loveday, we demand that she RESIGNS IMMEDIATELY and is no longer the appointed agent or affiliated, in any way, shape or form with the Chrisp St Renegeration Plans.

We DEMAND an IMMEDIATE DEFERRAL of the Regeneration Plans and demand that a MEANINGFUL consultation takes place imminently with local residents and market traders. The issues raised by local residents and market traders are as follows (non-exhaustive):

1. Lack of Consultation
The business owners, residents and stakeholders have complained of a lack of information regarding the regeneration scheme. There has been very little effort being made to ensure that all those affected by the scheme were made aware of any public consultations or meetings. Rather, the business owners have been made to feel intimidated and threatened by individual visits from representatives at Poplar Harca, seeking to take signatures on the spot.

2. Business Rental and Service Charge Increase
The regeneration may lead to a substantial increase in business rent rates and service charge, meaning that it may not be viable for some businesses to continue trading, and at a time when small businesses are struggling in the current economic climate, business owners want the reassurance of a rent cap at the current rate.

3. Lack of Social Housing
The population of Tower Hamlets as of 2016 was approximately 297,800, but is projected to increase to 364,500 by 2026, meaning that increasing affordable housing and other facilities is crucial. The demand for social housing is exceeding the supply as there are 23,000 people currently on the housing waiting list. The regeneration plan will make very little difference to the demand on social housing, particularly for the need for three and four bedroom properties.

4. Parking Facilities
The increased need for parking facilities has not been considered. The car free nature of the development has raised concerns for business owners as it will affect their business income. The regeneration plan is further decreasing the current low number of parking spaces around the market.

5. Potential Enforcement of Compulsory Purchase Orders

Current leaseholders are worried about the potential enforcement of compulsory purchase orders, forcing them out of the area and losing their livelihood.
