New Zealand is arguably asleep at the wheel on what could be one of the biggest Tourism recovery opportunities in front of us - Rainbow (LGBT+) Tourism.

With the recent announcement by Rt Hon Jacinda Ardern to invest $11m in diversifying tourism in the wake of Carona virus and the launch of the Tourism New Zealand re-imagine initiative, now is the time that Rainbow (LGBT+) tourism should be firmly on the agenda like never before.

There is currently NO rainbow plan and yet rainbow people make up approx. 10% of the world's population across all countries, ethnic groups, and socio economic brackets. New Zealand is in a prime position both culturally and legally to put itself 'out there' as one of the safest and most inclusive countries in the world. 

We need a strategy which celebrates the kindness of New Zealand culture, which visibly and explicitly recognises the importance of Rainbow safety and inclusion and invests in building these opportunities and experiences alongside other tourism sectors as part of our recovery.

The benefits of Rainbow tourism would also have a significant impact across our communities for LGBT+ New Zealanders in many positive ways - it's good for business and our communities - and it's a win-win. 

Tourism New Zealand, give us a Rainbow Tourism strategy now, which allows us to feel safe, visible, and included on holiday and at home.
