The City of Wauwatosa was recently recognized as a "Bird City".
Bird City Wisconsin, an organization that "provides highly visible public recognition to municipalities that understand healthy communities are the sum of many parts, including birds ... and generally make urban areas both friendlier for birds and places where people want to live and work."
Charles Hagner, Director of Bird City Wisconsin, said the actions of the City of Wauwatosa "benefit birds and other wildlife and help build a connection to nature that will show current and future decision makers just how important it is to protect the natural world.”
This is not fake news, or an article from The Onion - this really happened, and the hypocrisy is deafening.
This petition began as just a way to capture the collective shock and disgust of the surrounding community from the needless killing of innocent wildlife. The City of Wauwatosa directly defied their own public posting about their approach to urban turkey management and then doubled down on their failure, telling the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that the City of Wauwatosa has no "official" policy regarding urban turkey management.
The demand is now clear:
The City of Wauwatosa must establish an OFFICIAL policy for urban turkey management that does not condone killing as a first resort. The process must be transparent and include community input.
THE NEEDLESS KILLING OF WILDLIFE CANNOT HAPPEN AGAIN.
The petition is close to 600 signatures! Keep sharing until we reach the goal of 1,000 signatures and the City of Wauwatosa recognizes our demand!
