I'm Sorry

This petition had 36 supporters

While there has been a lot of debate about the Senate Report on CIA Torture, there are two words that have been absent from both sides of the discussion. "I'm sorry."

The majority of those that are signing this petition were not directly involved in the torture activities. But it was done in our name.  We know that saying "I'm sorry" will not remove the stain on our Nation. We know that it is not enough to heal the brokeness we have created in the lives of our victims and their families. We know that it will not result in immediate forgiveness. But we also know that it is  the right thing to do.

We remain hopeful that if enough of us start saying what many consider to be the two most powerful words in the English language, that we will have taken the first step towards that long journey of addressing a terrible and painful chapter in US history.  But we cannot move forward until we at least acknowledge what happened. By signing this petition we do that using two simple words: I'm sorry.
