It was back to business as usual on Monday morning for bike lane scofflaws in downtown Toronto following the city's month-long bike lane ticketing blitz. Drivers settled into their pre-blitz routines, increasing road insecurity by parking in the lanes, putting cyclists at risk and clogging traffic. An early offender was a Coca Cola truck tagged with a $150 ticket on College Street by parking enforcement officer Kyle Ashley who led the city's ticketing blitz, challenging corporate and individual drivers alike over the past month. Twitter users shouted out about blocked lanes on Adelaide and Harbord streets. Marketing strategist Julie Klein known by the Twitter handle @julesklein shared a picture of a Toronto Transit Commission express bus in a bike lane on Adelaide, tweeting: "Poor execution of great urban plan @jen_keesmaat." Keesmaat, the city's chief urban planner, is tasked with improving bike lane infrastructure, which has come under criticism for inadequately protecting cyclists from aggressive drivers. Last week, Toronto Police Services said a special team would be deployed to enforce clear bike lanes due to the success of PEO Ashley's ticketing blitz, but as yet no further details have been announced publicly. He also makes helpful daily broadcasts and supportive comments to cyclists via his @TPS_ParkingPal Twitter account. His efforts have been celebrated by cyclists used to disrespectful treatment. "Shaw = completely clear. Richmond St W - 1 x 450$ ♿ticket and 1 x #BikeTO bikelane ticket. Complete obstruct - driver moving it. Be safe all," PEO Ashley tweeted on Monday. More than 600 people have now signed the petition to support PEO Ashley's key role in keeping the bike infrastructure clear.
