Reroute 3km out of 11km East Don Trail production! Save the forest!!!
The Issue
In 2011, it was proposed that an environmental study be conducted throughout the East Don River to investigate the feasibility of constructing a trail throughout this biodiversity hotspot. So far, there have been countless trees marked to be cut down in order to make room for an asphalt bike trail that will span 4.8km out of 11km in length and 3.5-4.0m in width. This is great enough an area to kill a variety of species that live throughout the valley.
This valley is one of the rare places in Toronto that houses a network and variety of trails that mountain bikers can go to test out their skills. It naturally provides everyone with the ability to cycle, walk their dogs, go for a run, have an intimate picnic lunch, and do so much more—all while simultaneously enjoying the surrounding nature and home to wildlife. It would be a travesty to see all of this rare beauty be disrupted! Why here? They can move this destructive work to any other place where construction procedures would do far less damage.
If you agree to stop the production of this unnecessary project, please take the time to express your concern as the assessment deadline is fast-approaching. Let's preserve the only sacred, untouched area left in our city and stop before we continue to disrupt the East Don Valley!
