Ellie’s Potbellies is a 501c3 non-profit who is home to abandoned potbelly pigs of all ages and conditions. We established our rescue in 2018. In 2020, Tooele County revised the animal ordinances. They classify animals you can have by the size of that animal. Ex: if you own 1 acre you can have 4 large animals: ex:4 horses or cows; 16 Medium animals ex: 16 goats, sheep or mini horses or 40 Small animals ex: chickens/ducks. This ordinance change omitted Potbellies but placed Swine in a generic group with horses and cows and a large animal. The small Potbelly Pig does not belong in the same classification group as 1000lb + horses and cows.  Potbelly Pigs do not take up as much space as a horse, so we are petitioning them to change this ordinance and group Potbellies in with the Medium size animals. They have listed Mini Cows and Mini Horses in the medium group but failed to categorize Mini Pigs in the medium group. 

If we can correct this size classification, we will be well under our animal limit and be able to continue living in our home, and carrying on with our rescue work. 

This petition is simple. 
A Mini Pig (aka Potbelly) is NOT the same Size nor does it take up the same grazing space as a horse. 
It’s that simple.
