Demand That Univ. of South Alabama Not Allow Rapists On Campus

Demand That Univ. of South Alabama Not Allow Rapists On Campus
The Issue
My name is Lea Banks and I was sexually assaulted by 4 different greek affiliated students that attend my college, the University of South Alabama. My School found one of my rapist and sexual assailants not responsible of their actions although evidence clearly shows sexual assault happened. During this first hearing, they violated my Title IX rights, the Clery Act, my rights as a victim and their very own policy. They even found me responsible of harassing my rapist for using his name in documents on my website, even though I'm within my legal rights, to help others prevent themselves from entering a potentially dangerous situation by interacting with him and the others. This one rapist knew he had caused physical damage to my vagina, a rupture an ovarian cyst, me to have surgery, and suffer serious mental and emotional trauma. My rapist admitted he was hurting me during our disciplinary hearing and even changed his story three times! I feel my school finds rapists and those who sexually assault others not responsible as a way to keep their rape statistics down.
I have paired up with the Mobile Bay area branch of the Socialist Alternative to help spread my story, get the justice I deserve, and help eliminate rape on my campus. Here are our demands for the University of South Alabama:
- For South to formally re-open my case to include all evidence and bring those who have assaulted me to justice.
- That South creates a policy to mandate all students and faculty to attend an educational seminar on consent and sexual assault at the beginning of each semester.
- For South to release a public statement denouncing campus complicity on rape cases.
- For the formation of an independent student based commission to work with Title IX Coordinators to hold them accountable.
- For a university funded rape crisis and counseling center on campus.
Thank you for your time and support.
