Promote International Women's Day (IWD)
The Issue
March 8th is International Women's Day (IWD). A day that is well-recognised in other countries and is used as a key time to raise awareness of the 1 Billion women who experience violence world-wide and to shine a spotlight on the work of women’s charities.
We urge the BBC to actively promote IWD every year in the UK - where 10 million women experience violence. And to do it in a concerted way - through news, education and entertainment and through all of it's broadcasting platforms - whether radio, television or the internet.
This year it is fantastic to see you have an all-female line-up for BBC1 Radio presenters on and around IWD. This is a great first step. But we ask you to take a much larger leap in 2015. After all, there is massive awareness-raising around Black History Month, Comic Relief and many similar initiatives. Shouldn’t this also be done for women, half the world’s population?
Thank you
