Speed Control in the Anchorage section of Toms River

Speed Control in the Anchorage section of Toms River
The Issue
We are homeowners in the Anchorage section of Toms River and are petitioning for change on South Shore Drive to control excessive speeding in our neighborhood. This is a family community with many children and adults walking, riding bikes, etc, on the street. The current speed limit is 35 miles per hour, which is too high for a residential community such as this. It is not uncommon for cars to be recklessly driving at 50+ miles per hour on South Shore Drive. There are no sidewalks on the majority of the road and it is a danger to people who live in the community.
We have lived in the neighborhood for over 12 years and this problem has only gotten worse over time. Action must be taken. First, the speed limit on South Shore Drive should be reduced to 25 miles per hour and speed limit signs changed accordingly. Second, there are not enough speed limit signs on the street, particularly at the entrance of South Shore Drive from Hooper Avenue. Additional signage indicating new speed limits and possibly “slow down” signs need to be added at various spots on the street. A radar speed sign also needs to be added at the entrance of South Shore Drive to assist with traffic control. If these measures do not work, speed humps are an inexpensive and proven solution to help control speeding.
Please sign this petition to help make our community safer. With your help we will get Toms River Township to address this issue.
