Women spend nine months pregnant carrying a child, feeling that child move inside their womb, and bonding with that child. This is such a special and great experience for both mother and father. Women then prepare to bring that child in the world after nine months; to only spend and bond with their new infant six to twelve weeks. The problem here is this is not enough time to spend with a new baby or for first time parents. Parents have to leave their child(ren) to get back to work to be able to provide for their child(ren). Parents are also forced back to work due to child care and Title 20 allowing a short time frame or 6 weeks only for maternity leave, otherwise child care privileges are revoked. Unfortunately maternity or parental leaves are not always funded; even if so, the funds run out forcing mothers and fathers to get back to work. This also forces us to leave our children in the care of other people such as daycare facilities, sitters or family members. Forcibly leaving our babies in the care of other people at such a young age is not fair, and it hurts not only the parents but the child as well. This problem can be easily solved.

The solution that can help resolve this matter at hand is allowing parents a 13-14 month paid maternity leave. A paid leave for that above mentioned time frame will allow proper bonding time needed for parents, along with not missing milestones of our children. Parents will be able to learn their child, teach, and raise their child(ren) for their first and most crucial year of life. Our job is promised to be there, one thing that isn’t promised or something parents cannot buy back is time and memories of children. Parents also shouldn't be forced back to work because of Title 20, the child(rens) spot should be held for that 13-14th month leave for the infant, and allow attendance for previous siblings.

This is a matter of importance because first time mothers and mothers in general tend to struggle with leaving their infant child(ren). I am a first time mother, this is and will be one if the toughest and hardest things to overcome. Knowing I’m forced to leave my infant because I need to go back to work to provide for my child due to my maternity leave ending. I also want to make note during my 9 months of pregnancy I saved while working due to a nearly unpaid leave, with little to no help from my company. If anything should be be changed in the state of Pennsylvania or nationwide, it should be allotting a lengthier and mandatory paid leave for maternity covering end of pregnancy to child(ren) first year of life. It has been scientifically proven that the FIRST THREE YEARS of ones life are the most crucial. So with that being said why not allow mothers and fathers to enjoy their new addition to their family; by allowing them to spend the first year of their child(ren) life off from work. By allowing this in Pennsylvania and nationwide, you will be allowing families to bond and create memorable experiences that can’t be bought, along with allowing time for parents to further nurture, love, and teach their child(ren). So I ask that all mothers, fathers, aunts, and uncles to not only read this but to sign, as everyone can relate. Thank you.
