This petition is authored and started by former members of the Church of Scientology and not by the makers of the documentary Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief.

Why is this important to you?

In all countries where Scientology is considered a religion (and therefore tax exempt) the citizens of those countries unwittingly subsidize the activities of the organization. Scientology uses the resources of the cities that house their management organizations.

The Church of Scientology brings in many millions of dollars each year and has approximately 3.5 billion dollars in net worth while at the same time it allegedly engages in human trafficking/slave labor, forced imprisonment, forced or coerced abortions, child abuse and exploitation, mental cruelty, heavy punishment and fraud.

Unfortunately, it is difficult for authorities to get involved because Scientology is protected by the 1st Amendment and those who are imprisoned, often do not help authorities for fear of reprisal and don't know what to do until it is too late.

Why petition Tom Cruise?

Due to his outspoken support of Scientology, Tom Cruise has become the church's defacto spokesperson and the "face" of Scientology to many across the world. He has been close enough to the inner working of the organization at its highest levels to presumably be aware of the alleged abuses and if not, he should be.

Having huge reach into society, Tom Cruise has a responsibility to research and understand the organization that he is promoting to others. He also has a duty (as do all involved) not to give tacit consent and approval to these abuses by staying silent. He alone has the power to put a stop to them altogether.

As former members who are aware of abuses, we are asking your support in asking Tom Cruise to address these allegations. We are all his audience, fans, public, etc. and all of our voices should mean something to him collectively. It is the only way we know how to reach him.
