End $2.9B in state subsidies for fossil fuel & use $ for education

PennFuture, using figures Governor Corbett's own budget, added up the costs of subsidies to the coal and oil industry. $2.9 billion annually.

Last year Corbett cut $860 million PA public schools. This year he is calling for an additional cuts of $100 million. His budget calls for steep cuts to higher education - an average of 25 percent, for state universities after a cut last year of 20%.

Class sizes are increasing. Programs are ending. Libraries, special education, and after school activities are being cut. Schools are closed. Thousands of education jobs were lost.

Eliminating some of these subsidies to industries that are thriving would provide all the money we need for education.
