Let the Milwaukee Lion Live

The Milwaukee Lion is an overnight celebrity.
Since the news broke that a big cat - possibly a female African lion - was sighted running free on the city’s north side last week, there’s been an excitement in the air. This cat has captured the hearts of Milwaukee’s citizens, and we are following her story with baited breath.
But authorities seem less invested in a happy ending for this majestic creature. They have laid out meat-filled traps to lure it to them, and police are warning that they may shoot the lion on sight when they find it. When asked about this, Mayor Tom Barrett said “I don’t know that you allow a lion to live that’s in an urban area.”
Please sign my petition calling on Mayor Barrett and the Milwaukee Police Department to make safe retrieval of the lion a priority, and do everything in their power to remove it to a suitable haven.
Everyone agrees that the city is no place for a lion, but certain places do exist that are set up to safely house wild animals and escaped exotic pets. Wisconsin’s own Valley of the Kings Sanctuary and Retreat is on 24-hour standby to pick up the animal once it’s been safely trapped.
Of course we have to put people’s safety first, but this lion hasn’t hurt anyone and is loved by more and more people every day.
This story needs an ending, and, with your support, we can ensure that it’s a happy one. Please call on Milwaukee authorities to do everything in their power to let this lion live if she is found.
