We as Kent State University students do not feel safe on our own campus. 
The amount of police present for our larger campus events (i.e. Halloween, Homecoming) brings intimidation rather than peace of mind. To bring in police forces, including SWAT, days in before the events happen does not create a sense of safety. Students deserve more in terms of safety and their well being.  Rather than putting so much funds towards the police, money should be dispersed into alternative programming and safety measures that actually make students feel safe. The over-policing of students is unacceptable and unnecessary. We are requesting more transparency from the university in regard to the level of force used by police and the quantity of officers present during student events. If Kent State truly cares about the safety of its students, then alternatives to excessive policing should be considered.
