BAN Racism And Animal Cruelty At 2020 Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration

The Issue

The “White Supremacy” and overt racism of the "Old South" will soon be on display again this year at the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration held at Shelbyville, TN. (Aug. 26 – Sep. 5)

So will the barbaric Animal Cruelty perpetrated upon “Big Lick” Tennessee Walking Horses necessary to create and maintain the “Big Lick” show gait.   According to native Tennessean MTSU Horse Science Professor Equine Vet Dr. John Haffner,  the “Big Lick” is Animal Cruelty – “a pain induced gait – a business built on the suffering and pain of horses.”

When the “Big Lick” Tennessee Walking Horses struggle to win the World Grand Championship titles,  the Confederate battle anthem “DIXIE” will blare loudly as the horses execute a final “running walk”,  and the 98% white audience whoops and hollers wildly as the horses strain to be crowned World Grand Champion.

*     Immediately following the 2017 Celebration,  the trainer/rider of World Grand Champion “Gen’s Black Maverick”  began serving an eight (8) month USDA Federal suspension for alleged “HORSE SORING” charges which related to the 2016 Celebration.   “Gen’s Black Maverick” was that allegedly “SORE” horse.

In 2018,  the Celebration “offended the decency of all persons who love animals” by naming its outdoor arena for the allegedly “SORE” World Grand Champion “Gen’s Black Maverick”.

He was joined by the second and third place finishers along with the “Trainer Of The Year”, all to serve USDA Federal suspensions for alleged “HORSE SORING”.

BLACK SLAVERY AND THE TENNESSEE WALKING HORSE

The roots of the Tennessee Walking Horse breed hearken back to the slave holding days of the Old South.  Plantation owners needed a smooth riding horse to go check on the black slave labor who grew the cotton upon which the economy of the Old South was built.   Confederate cavalrymen rode these horses into battle to perpetuate slavery.  In the years following the Civil War,  these smooth riding horses evolved into the Tennessee Walking Horse breed.

The Tennessee Walking Horse breed registry was founded in 1935 at Lewisburg, TN.  It is about 19 miles from the birthplace of KKK Founder Nathan Bedford Forrest at Chapel Hill, TN for which Bedford County (Shelbyville), TN is named.

The first Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration was held at Shelbyville, Tennessee in 1939.

CCABLAC ADVOCATES PROTEST AGAINST “BIG LICK” ANIMAL CRUELTY

Since 2015, a grassroots “WE, The People” - Citizens Campaign Against “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty (CCABLAC) has played a major role to end the abject animal abuse perpetrated upon Tennessee Walking Horses.

“WE, The People” – CCABLAC advocates are Southerners.  They are supported by and represent people throughout America and from all over the World.   CCABLAC advocates have stood outside the gates of the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration for the past five years to protest against the Animal Cruelty perpetrated upon Tennessee Walking

On July 25, 2019,  the United States House of Representatives delivered   “America’s Verdict” to abolish the “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty to Tennessee Walking Horses forever with a historic bipartisan 333 to 96 roll call vote in favor of the U. S. Senator Joseph D. Tydings Memorial PAST ACT.    This effort was led by the Citizens Campaign Against “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty and  Animal Wellness Action, along with other groups,  including the Humane Society of the United States.           A majority of Republicans and Democrats voted for the bill.

In 2019,   CCABLAC’s efforts resulted in the lowest actual attendance in 50 years at the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration.  Since 2013, the breed registry has lost approximately 4,000 members - over 50% - due to the “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty stigma from “SORING”.   CCABAC has denied legitimacy to “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty by ending major “Big Lick” TWH Shows held at Panama City Beach, FL;  Jackson, MS;  Gallatin, TN;  MTSU (Middle Tennessee State University) and the North Carolina State Fair.

NASCAR has banned the Confederate Flag from its events.

So has the Ohio State Fair,  and the Arab, AL high school band stopped playing “Dixie” in 2018.

The University of Mississippi,  whose athletic teams are the “Rebels”,  stopped playing “DIXIE” in 2016.
