Petition updateLift the ban on cigarette sales in South AfricaDo we really care?

Hello All you wonderful smokers and smoker friends

We were criminalized in a blink of an eye!

Our wonderful government and especially Ms Dlamini Zuma didn’t care a damn about us smokers and the terrible impact it would have on us, especially those who relied on smoking to alleviate other problems. Recovering drug addicts, people with disorders like bipolar, depression and anxiety were left to suffer.

She didn’t care about the millions lost each month in cigarette tax which could have fed the millions of starving people, or paid for the necessary medical equipment needed or even upgraded our medical facilities.

So why should we care? The Government knew that 90% of people wouldn't or couldn't stop smoking, yet condoned our police force abusing their power to catch us with cigarettes and we were subjected to abuse, bribes, fines and even jail time for this farce.

They obviously didn’t need the money or were profiting from the illicit sales, who knows? There are soo many unanswered questions around this.

All the brands were available during the ban, some more pricey than others, so don’t be fooled into believing it was only the illegal cigarettes.

from the Citizen Newspaper - "Fita said at the time it did not deny that its brands were “in the market” but said Batsa was trying to deflect attention from its own illicit activities."

I have supported FITA, BATSA & JTI during the ban, gave affidavits for their court cases, which have now just fizzled out & have kept everyone updated as best I could.

FITA and Gold Leaf Tobacco have parted ways, for reasons no one has been given privy to yet, but that doesn’t worry me. All I am now thinking about is my pocket.  Is that so wrong?

Before the ban I had no idea which company owned which cigarettes and I have smoked many different brands in my life.  Suddenly all these names came up that I had never ever heard of and have since found out that most of them were smuggled into the country, however the RG's I obtained are Gold Leaf, which I had heard of, just like Voyager and Sharp (cheaper cigarettes but manufactured locally) I believe they have the best on offer, especially with their online purchasing. It is awesome and efficient and I will continue to support them in order to support my pocket. I support local from now on.

As so many of you have said, RG’s were here for us during lockdown and have now become our cigarette of choice.

To find out more, join our Facebook Group, I have a link for their online purchasing for those who are interested – Let our voices be heard ZA
https://www.facebook.com/groups/261760015143041 as I cannot advertise directly on here. I would also like to hear your thoughts on this in my group.

I will leave the comment section open on the link within the group. We not only discuss cigarettes on the group, we post articles on the Government Corruption, GBV, the Farm Murders, Human Trafficking, Child Abductions and are part of a group called One Movement, which comprises of several groups joined to fight against all that is wrong in our beautiful country.

I am just sick and tired of us poor smokers being on the losing end all the time.

For those of you who think this is morally wrong to buy the cheaper cigarettes I suggest you get of your moral buttocks and start questioning all the other corruption in nearly every government department, millions and millions looted, yet everyone wants to now cry about the fiscus.

I think this is just another ploy to divert our attention away from the government and their antics.
