We the undersigned register our objection to the proposed plan to transfer ownership of the Chandler Magnet ballfields and woodlands to Worcester State so that they may become a Worcester State University parking lot.

This property is a small oasis of green in what is becoming an overly-asphalted city.  It is used heavily by youth and adult athletic leagues, school children on nature walks, and residents for hiking, running, and playing with their families.  

Worcester aspires to be New England’s healthiest city; its children struggle with obesity and asthma; it has preserved so little open green space within walking distance of homeowners. The decision to pave these fields over into a parking lot is egregiously poor stewardship. 

We ask that the School Committee vote against declaring these valuable lands surplus, and that the City and Worcester State consider more innovative and thoughtful methods to address Worcester State's needs.
