Change laws for the keeping of companion and rescue pigs.

Change laws for the keeping of companion and rescue pigs.
The issue
Right now pigs that are kept as companion animals, or in refuges and sanctuaries around Australia can be subject to the same laws as commercial piggeries with hundreds, up to thousands of intensively farmed and housed animals. Pet pigs are considered "livestock" and one pet pig will often be removed by council orders, even on large blocks that are suitable for pet pigs.
Keeping a pig/s as pets or providing "free range" Sanctuary for a number of pigs in a rural/semi rural environment should not be subject to the same strict requirements as big industry and intensive farming. Currently, some local councils are reasonable and more relaxed on keeping of pigs, but state government requires involved and expensive Development Applications to be sought, and other local councils have given themselves the power to decide exactly how many pigs are appropriate, without question, or reason.
These laws CANNOT be a blanket rule for everyone. There needs to be clear, simple and reasonable guidelines for keeping of pigs in non commercial/agricultural circumstances. Please help us help the pigs. These beautiful, intelligent, loving and globally tortured animals deserve a voice and a chance, and so do the people who love and care for them.
