Let Galveston City Council know you OPPOSE Rezoning Stewart Road Property
This petition made change with 1,093 supporters!
The owner of the property at 13718 Stewart Road has requested that it be re-zoned from Residential to Resort/Recreational. The property runs north from Stewart Road, immediately parallel to Cove Lane for the entire length of that street.
Res/Rec zoning would allow that property, directly between Lafitte's Cove and Pirates Cove, to become anything from low-income housing to an R/V park, live music venue, biker bar, or rehab facility.
The property was always zoned Residential, a fact we relied upon when we purchased our homes. Any re-zoning would definitely result in a reduction of our property values.
The land in question is currently under contract for sale, as is the tract immediately adjacent to it. The buyer(s) will not come forward to disclose their plan for these properties.
At the April 4, 2017 meeting of the Galveston Planning Commission, the request for complete re-zoning was defeated. However, the Commission approved an amended proposal for a partial re-zoning. The decision now goes to Galveston City Council for a vote on April 27, 2017. It is CRITICAL that we let our mayor and city council members know that re-zoning ANY part of this property is unacceptable.
We need ALL community property owners, their families, fellow Galvestonians, and visitors to sign this online petition to communicate your OPPOSITION to re-zoning ANY part of 13718 Stewart Road to Resort/Recreational. The welfare of the wildlife that makes our neighborhoods an oasis is at stake, as is our close-knit, safe community.
Please sign this petition immediately, share, post, repost and let City Council know that the overtaxed, underrepresented West End opposes this change!
Pirates POA and West Galveston Island POA support the efforts of Lafitte's Cove POA in opposing the zoning change.
Under the current Residential zoning, the present owner can continue operating his allowable home-based businesses. We are not trying to deprive him of his livelihood.
Thank you for supporting our community,
