For those of you who do not know the difference between a modern breech-loading firearm & a primitive muzzle-loading firearm the difference is this: A modern gun uses smokeless gunpowder which produces more pressure & therefore more power. The brass shell is loaded into the breech of the barrel.
The muzzle-loading pistols I am referring to in this petition have no brass shell, they use a round ball which has to be loaded in the muzzle of the gun. They are slow to load & usually only have one shot. No magazine, & only black powder can be used or they would blow up in your face! You can NOT use modern ammunition in these guns.
In order to purchase this black powder you have to have a firearms licence & you have to have a registered muzzle-loading gun. The ignition is supplied by a piece of rock or a piece of glowing matchcord. This rock is either a piece of flint or agate or for the wheellock a piece of pyrite which is hard to come by.
Now if you think that a criminal is likely to used one of these rock locks in preference to simply cutting down a modern shotgun or purchasing a modern revolver or semi-automatic pistol then I can understand you not wishing to sign my petition. But if on the other hand you are a common sense sort of person & realise that these primitive rock lock pistols are not the sort of gun any criminal in or out of his right mind is going to use, then I would very much appreciate you signing my petition so that Living Historians like myself & Historical Reenactors can enjoy ourselves by owning & using one of these beautiful historical primitive tools.
Thank you for reading this update.
