We are contacting you because you previously signed Joe Hunt's petition to the Governor of California to commute his prison sentence and give him a parole hearing. Thank you again for your important support for his freedom! We now have over 14,400 signatures.

Joe remains locked up (35 years now) and he has reached a crucial point in his interaction with the California Government. We need your help - would you please write an email in support of his commutation?

There is growing recognition that "Life Without Parole" sentences are often excessive. Former California Governor Brown and now California Governor Newsom have collectively commuted over 100 life without parole sentences during their terms. If we are to objectively compare the case factors for Joe and those who have already received a commutation, it is plainly clear that he is at least as qualified for release.

Recently, he has received support in the form of "laudatory chronos" (i.e. letters of recommendation) from prison staff at the California Health Care Facility, where he is stationed. If this institutional backing is coupled with letters from those that support him, we believe the doors will open and he will be freed to reunite with his family and community.

Joe now has a heart condition so is at higher risk in general and is especially susceptible to Covid-19.
